The reception evening

Wedding receptions in NE Calgary

The couple's entrance, the speeches, dinner and the first dance — one evening in one hall, with the kitchen, the stage and the lighting run by the same team.

Wedding receptions at Moonlight

The reception is the evening most guests remember a wedding by. It usually follows a ceremony held elsewhere — an Anand Karaj, a nikah, a church or civil service — and it has a great deal to fit in: the couple's entrance, the families' speeches, dinner, the cake and a dance floor that should fill quickly and stay full.

We plan the room around that order. The stage sits at the head of the hall with the dance floor directly in front of it, the buffet runs along one wall, and the lighting moves with the night — softer for dinner, deeper colour once the dancing starts.

If you are planning the whole wedding week, start with our weddings page. This one is about the reception night itself — how it runs, how the room is laid out and how dinner is served.

  • A stage for the couple

A raised stage at the head of the room, designed in-house around your colours and the couple's seating.

  • Lighting that follows the night

Programmable colour lighting, warm for the entrance and dinner, then changed for the dance floor.

  • Dinner served together

Multiple buffet lines so a full room eats at once, or plated service if you would rather the tables were served.

  • Late-night service

A second round of food, arranged in advance, for receptions that keep going.

How it comes together

From the first conversation to the last guest out — one team, start to finish.

  1. Arrival

Guests come in from free on-site parking through a step-free entrance and find their tables while the room is lit for arrival.

  2. The couple's entrance

The lights drop, the music starts and the couple walk through the room to the stage.

  3. Speeches and dinner

Speeches from the stage on wireless microphones, then dinner from the buffet lines or plated to the table.

  4. Cake and first dance

The cake is cut and the couple take the floor in front of the stage, with the lighting changed for the dancing.

  5. The floor opens

Everyone joins the couple, with late-night food served if you have arranged it in advance.

The room

A reception usually fills both seating areas of the hall, up to 500 guests, at round tables so families can sit together. The couple's stage faces the room and the dance floor sits directly in front of it, so every table looks towards the couple. A head table for the wedding party or long tables for one side of the family can be arranged; we plan the layout with you to your final count.

The menu

Receptions are where families tend to go furthest with the menu — a Punjabi buffet with a live chaat counter, a Pakistani spread of karahi and biryani, or a fusion menu that pairs Indian dishes with Western ones for a mixed guest list. We build it with you at a consultation, with a tasting, and set the spice level to your brief rather than ours. Milder plates for children and older guests are served separately, and every dietary requirement is confirmed in writing before the day.

Yes. Some receptions plate a first course to the table and open the buffet for mains; we plan the mix with you at the consultation.

Can we play a slideshow or a video?

Yes. The hall has a screen and in-house sound, so a slideshow or a short film can run during dinner or before the speeches.

Who provides the music?

The hall has in-house sound and wireless microphones. Tell us who will be playing at your reception and we will confirm the arrangements with you at booking.

Is there a bar at the reception?

The hall has a bar area. We go through how it will be used at your reception with you at booking.
